When you think about shoes for the workplace, heavy-duty footwear such as steel toe boots may come to mind. These boots, which have reinforced toes to protect the feet from hazards such as heavy objects, are important personal protective equipment (PPE) at many industrial and construction worksites. Many kinds of shoes exist that can make jobs safer, though, not just steel toe boots. Other types of boots and shoes can provide traction, arch support and other safety benefits. To find the right foot protection for the jobs in your workplace, you’ll need to do a hazard assessment and determine what kinds of risks—such as slipping and falling or sharp objects—pose a threat to your employees’ feet. Then select shoes or boots that offer the right protection. Shoes may not seem as critical to workplace safety as protective eyewear or gloves, but footwear provides many benefits. If anyone in your workplace doubts the value of investing in footwear, offer him or her some of the ways safety shoes can keep workers safe. Source India shoes Noida Mob 9990848912

An emergency safety shower is essential for the personnel working with hazardous chemicals, liquids, and other harmful items. It offers a support in case of emergency eyewash or shower. The safety shower unit is specifically designed to wash the head and body of an individual which has accidentally come into contact with hazardous chemicals while working. Safety showers are essential to be installed in laboratories, chemical factories, and similar other places where chemicals and hazardous substances are used. To know more about the safety showers, keep reading. Safety Showers The emergency showers and eye wash stations are necessary to be installed in such places that usually deal with chemicals and hazardous products such as chemical industry, labs, etc. There are two types of showers available; one is for face protection and other is for full body protection. You can install both or single type of shower as per your requirement on site. Showers having both the facility are also available which can be operated simultaneously or individually. These types of showers are available in hand or foot operated modes. You can choose the one that suits you the best. These showers help in reducing the workplace injuries and keep the workers safe. • Full Body Safety Washer: The full body safety shower is generally available with pull chain system. This is only used for washing the complete body, including head, in case the worker comes in contact with any hazardous material. • Eye Washer: The eye washer is wall mounted and simple to operate. It can be available in any operating form such as hand or foot. It is ideal for washing the eyes in case of contact with the chemicals or hazardous products. In such a case, the eyes are required to be washed for at least 5 minutes. • Eye Washer Bottle: The eye wash bottle is a kind of personal eyewash unit that operates as a supplementary for eyewash stations. The complete stations cannot be replaced by these bottles as they do not match the exact safety standards. These bottles help in cleaning the injured areas by flushing out the chemicals or other hazardous material immediately. Apart from the mentioned above, there are combination units, drench houses, etc., under the category of safety showers. Construction Safety Nets & Their Types The construction safety nets are used on the construction sites in order to provide fall protection to the workers. To avoid any type of serious injury on a construction site, the safety nets are installed. These are fixed below a high-level work area in order to reduce the distance between the place from where a person might fall and the ground. The safety nets are specifically designed for deflecting and absorbing the energy of a fall. Thus, this helps in reducing the probability of an injury. With the help of the safety nets being installed on a construction site, people feel safe to work at height. These nets should be installed ensuring enough clear space below so that when the net deflects then the person do not hit the ground or any other obstacle when fall. Keep on reading if you want to know more about the construction safety nets. Construction Safety Nets & Their Types The construction safety nets are used for providing fall protection. There are two basic types of the fall-protection system which are used in the construction industry. These are named as active and passive systems. The active system is a type of protection system or device that demands positive action to protect against the fall. This means the worker has to wear a safety belt that connects the lanyard or belt to a safer suspension point. The workers can also put a hard hat, etc. The passive system, on the other hand, is installed to protect the workers without the requirement of taking any positive action on their own. Further, the passive system is divided into two different types, namely personnel, and debris nets. The personnel nets, as the name suggests, are designed to catch the personnel, who fell from a height. The debris nets, on the other hand, are designed for catching small or lightweight construction tools, debris, building materials, etc., which are dropped or pushed from a particular structure. The debris nets prevent the passerby, workers, or traffic from being hurt or damage. The personnel nets are manufactured using different natural and synthetic materials in the form of strings or ropes that fabricates a web having mesh strength that is enough to endure the force of a falling person. On the other hand, the mesh size of the debris nets depends on the type of job in which they are employed. These are available in different strengths and sizes. In a nutshell, the construction safety nets are essential to be installed on the construction sites in order to keep everything safe. Benefits Of Labour Safety Shoes The most hard-working people of our society are the labourers. They have to work in absurd and dingy construction sites and undertake hard-core tasks. The work of the labourers comprises loading and unloading the stones and bricks, carrying the cement to the construction site, standing on the scaffoldings for hours, and installing different electrical wires inside the walls of the building. Almost all the tasks that the labourers engage into are dangerous. Thus, labourers have to wear safety equipments while undertaking these tasks on the construction sites. In fact, most labourers are advised to put on their safety equipments even when they are not manually engaged in any construction work. The most exposed part of the body during the construction work is the feet. The labourers have to give special attention to their feet. Thus, along with the safety equipment, most labourers purchase labour safety shoes. Want to know more about the benefits of wearing the labour safety shoes? Well, read on! Benefits Of Labour Safety Shoes Keeping the foot intact during a construction work is very important. The labourers may face foot injuries like laceration, punctures, foot sprains, and crushing. Injuries can happen due to any reason like falls, slips, and trips. Although the injuries caused by these mishaps would be less destructive, one cannot predict the long term effects of these repetitive injuries. Therefore, the construction engineers give safety shoes to their labourers for protecting their feet from such injuries. In fact, standing bare feet the whole day during work can also cause permanent pain or any other damage to the workers’ feet. Due to the aforementioned problems, most labourers purchase the labour safety shoes for work purposes. The safety shoes can save the labourers from getting their feet exposed to heavy stones and uneven flooring. It will also prevent their feet to be caught or stuck in between any object. During the construction procedure, many stones or other objects have a chance of falling from a height. Wearing the safety shoes can save the laborers’ feet from these objects. Moreover, pain caused by standing for a prolonged period is also not very high when the labourers wear these safety shoes. In the recent years, the labour safety shoes have become popular in the construction safety industry. Due to the aforementioned benefits and many others, the demand for these shoes has increased over the years. You can search for the most reliable labour safety shoes suppliers on the internet for purchasing high quality shoes. https://jasmeenjackley.tumblr.com/post/174427636513/benefits-of-labour-safety-shoes
FUNCTIONS OF SAFETY SHOES Foot injuries can be debilitating, resulting in time away from work or difficulty performing a job. Wearing safety shoes or boots can help prevent many foot injuries in the following ways. 1. PROTECT FROM FALLING & FLYING OBJECTS When workers carry heavy materials or work in dynamic environments where many people, machines and vehicles are operating at once, falling and flying objects are common hazards. Protective shoes like steel toe boots can effectively prevent crushing injuries to the feet. 2. PROTECT FROM PUNCTURES When workers could step on sharp objects or be struck by sharp objects from above, shoes with heavy-duty soles and thick materials surrounding the foot offer the best protection. At construction worksites, for example, many sharp objects could be in someone’s path. A soft-soled shoe might not provide enough protection. 3. PROTECT FROM CUTTING HAZARDS Machinery that is sharp or contains moving parts can pose cutting hazards. Workers in the logging industry, for example, face dangers from chainsaws. If a chainsaw were to come in contact with someone’s foot, the result could be catastrophic. Logging boots—which are required by OSHA under standard 29 CFR 1910.266(d)(1)(v)—made with cut-resistant material will protect those workers who use chainsaws. These boots are also waterproof or water repellant and support the ankles. 4. PROTECT FROM ELECTRICAL HAZARDS Electricity poses a variety of risks in the workplace. Workers could face potential electric shocks or accumulate static electricity, which can lead to electric sparks in certain environments. To reduce the chances of an electrical accident, non-conductive footwear made from leather, rubber or other materials that don’t conduct electricity can be worn. In locations where the build-up of static on the body poses a hazard, anti-static or conductive footwear can be used. These options reduce the amount of static that accumulates on the body, preventing static electric sparks. 5. PREVENT SLIPS, TRIPS & FALLS Safety Shoes, Footwear, Foot Protection Slips, trips and falls can happen in any workplace and result in many accidents annually. Businesses can take steps such as implementing housekeeping measures and installing anti-slip floor tape to reduce the risks of these mishaps. Proper footwear can also provide additional protection against slips, trips and falls. Shoes with appropriate traction can help prevent falls on the same level in slippery environments. They can also prevent falls from ladders, which are all too common when people don’t wear shoes with proper treads. Footwear that fits well and feels comfortable can also improve balance, which will help prevent slips, trips and falls, too. 6. PREVENT FATIGUE For workers who stand all day, especially on hard surfaces like concrete, fatigue can be a real problem. Muscles in the feet as well as the legs, back and other parts of the body grow tired, and the situation can be worsened when employees don’t wear appropriate footwear. Shoes that provide adequate cushioning and arch support can make people more comfortable, which alleviates strain on muscles. This means employees will grow fatigued less quickly. Employees who are less fatigued will be more alert, so they will likely do their jobs more safely and more efficiently. Preventing muscle strain will also help protect against musculoskeletal disorders such as chronic lower back pain, too. 7. PREVENT BURNS Burns from fire can happen in the workplace, but so can burns from chemicals and even from common workplace materials like cement. Footwear made from durable materials can prevent burns from chemicals splashes, molten metal splashes and other dangerous substances that could injure the skin on the feet. 8. PROTECT FROM EXTREME WEATHER We all know that cold weather can lead to injuries such as frost bite and hypothermia, and those dangers shouldn’t be overlooked in the workplace. People who work outside in the winter are at risk, as well as employees who work in wet or refrigerated environments. Furthermore, the cold can exacerbate some less known workplace injuries. For example, Raynaud’s Syndrome is a disease where the fingers can turn white from poor blood flow. This condition, related to vibration from power tool use, is made worse when employees are exposed to cold temperatures. In some cases, this disorder can impact the feet, too, so keeping the feet warm and comfortable in conjunction with other measures for keeping the body warm is important. Not all footwear is waterproof or insulated to provide protection against the cold, rain and snow, so be sure to select shoe options that are made from appropriate materials. DON’T FORGET THE OSHA REGULATIONS Safety Label, PPEAs you can see, footwear for the workplace offers many kinds of protection for workers. For those reasons alone, it’s worth making a foot protection program part of your workplace. You should also remember that in many work situations protective footwear is required. OSHA standard 29 CFR 1910.136(a) states: The employer shall ensure that each affected employee uses protective footwear when working in areas where there is a danger of foot injuries due to falling or rolling objects, or objects piercing the sole, or when the use of protective footwear will protect the affected employee from an electrical hazard, such as a static-discharge or electric-shock hazard, that remains after the employer takes other necessary protective measures. Make sure your business follows the requirements and selects the appropriate safety shoes. Doing so will improve safety and comfort, which will make your employees happy, too. To learn more about selecting work boots for industrial workplaces and what options are available, read Work Boots 101. You can also see a review for work boots at Safety Blog News. Safety footwear is designed to protect the user from potential work hazards. There are different components that made up safety footwear. These components include safety toe guards, metatarsal guards, electrical hazard ratings, electro static dissipating ratings and the soles of the shoes. The mission of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OHSA) is to save lives, prevent injuries and protect the health of America’s workers. OSHA believes that the employer shall ensure that each affected employee wears protective footwear when working in areas where there is a danger of foot injuries due to falling or rolling objects or objects piercing the sole. Such equipment shall comply with American National Standards Institute (ANSI), ANSI Z-41-1991, “American National Standard for Personal Protection-Protective Footwear” [62 FR 40141, July 15, 1997]. To accomplish this, federal and state governments must work in partnership with the more than 100 million working men and women and their six and a half million employers who are covered by the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970. Safety toe guards originated in safety boots in 1925 with the intention to ultimately reduce the danger of foot injuries. Since then, the American National Standards Institute has set standards for protective footwear. There are two basic requirements all safety footwear must include: impact and compression. According to the test results there are three classifications of each. IMPACT: I/75, I/50, and I/30 are designations for test results done with a 50-pound weight dropped from a set height. COMPRESSION: C/75, C/50, and C/30 are designations of test done compressing the safety toes at 2, 500 pounds (for C/75), 1, 750 pounds (C/50), and 1, 000 pounds (C/30). The toe must have a minimum clearance inside the toe area of the shoe of 16/32” for men’s footwear and 15/32” for women’s footwear after the tests are completed. There are many types of safety toes, such as steel toe, composite toe, alloy toe and Timberland's own Titan toe (made from titanium). While all allow for great protection, both steel toe and composite toe safety footwear are Working Person's Store's most popular routes of protection. The following chart shows the ANSI standards: Classification Compression Clearance Classification Impact Ft. Lbs. Clearance 75 75 1/2" 75 2, 500 1/2" 50 50 1/2" 50 1, 500 1/2" 30 30 1/2" 30 1, 000 1/2" Metatarsal guards protect the upper foot and toe area from potential “drop” hazards. The metatarsal guards can be attached to safety shoes both internally and externally. Each foot contains 26 bones. Most of those bones are found on the upper foot and are called the metatarsal bones, from which the name of this protective device originates. Keeping each and every bone protected is very important so one can work freely without pain or injury. Electrical Hazard (EH) rated footwear is designated to protect the wearer against open circuits up to 600 volts. EH footwear* is great for employees working around a plant or factory, such as plant operation personal, are usually most susceptible to EH conditions. EH safety footwear construction consists of a heel and sole combination usually molded into one single piece to the upper boot without any nails or metal. EH ratings are Tested by an independent lab to be able to withstand applications of 14, 000 volts (V) at 60 Hertz (Hz) for one minute, with leakage in excess of 3.0 milliamperes (mA). EH ratings can also protect the wearer against open circuits up to 600 V or less under dry conditions. WARNING: EH non-conductive footwear is not to be worn near explosives or in other environments requiring conductive footwear. Electro Static Discharge (ESD) is the shock that is felt when a person walks across a carpet and touches a door knob and a discharge of electricity occurs between that person and the door. That shock was actually a discharge of electricity in the range of 2, 000 to 3, 000 volts. The shock voltage has to be at least 2, 000 volts before the human body can feel it. The reason the 2, 000 volt ESD discharge does not kill someone is that the current is very low, but that same voltage can kill electronic components or possibly ignite volatile chemicals or explosives. To be marked as Electric Static Dissipating Footwear, a shoe must pass testing requirements established by ANSI. ESD footwear* can be classified as SD Type I or SD Type II. Footwear with this designation prevents the build-up of static electricity. This is done through the construction of the footwear with a special silver thread used to stitch the soles to the uppers or with carbon inserts in the sole or footbed. Static Dissipating (SD) Type I must offer electrical resistance between 1 mega ohm to 100 mega ohms DEFINITION: ohm = unit of electrical resistance, defined as the resistance in a circuit in which a potential difference of one volt creates a current of one ampere; hence, 1 ohm equals 1 volt/ampere. The megaohm (1, 000, 000 ohms) and milliohm (.001 ohm) are units derived from the ohm. Sole safety is measured in three ways; slip-resistance, wear and comfort. Slip resistance ratings for footwear are determined by independent laboratories. To determine slip-resistance*, the soles are tested under dry, wet, oily, and oily/wet conditions according to a uniform testing method (ASTM F 489 ASTM F1667) using American Olean red quarry tile for the test surface. The different methods of testing include: 0.05 grams (2 drops) of vegetable oil is used for oily testing, 25/millaliters of distilled water is added for wet testing, 0.2 grams (7 drops) of vegetable oil is used for oily testing and 25/millaliters of distilled water is added for oily/wet testing. The wear of the safety shoes includes many different types of material used in the construction of a shoe sole, each offers a different benefit. The durability of a shoe sole is at the mercy of the use and the work environment. Always try to match the shoe to the type of work and the working conditions. Most of the safety boots sold today have passed slip-resistance and wear tests. The comfort level of safety shoes includes different composites used to construct a shoe sole which all offer different comfort levels. Everyone has a different perception of comfort* and each foot has its own special requirements. Only the person wearing the shoe can determine the comfort level. The previous information about safety toe guards, metatarsal guards, electrical hazard ratings, electro static dissipating ratings and the soles of the shoes is meant to inform and help protect workers. When workers know what kind of foot protection they need and why they need it, the overall work environment will be much safer for everyone. It is not the sole responsibility for the employee to find this information. Make sure your employers are keeping you informed on up-to-date information so you can have optimal foot protection when times call for such. *Working with Working Person's Store's "Boot Finder" is very easy to do. Just click the features you want, such as EH, ESD, slip-resistance or comfort guarantee, and we will find boots which meet your needs. There are many other choices so you can find exactly what you are looking for.
